Composition - Aspect Ratio


Aspect ratio is the ratio of the length and width of a picture. If the same length and width of the image, then the aspect ratio is 1:1. In a pocket digital camera, the aspect ratio is usually 4:3, as well as micro four thirdsnya Olympus camera or Panasonic. In Canon DSLR cameras, Nikon, Sony, Pentax, the aspect ratio is 3:2. Choice of aspect ratio greatly affects the composition of the photo, but the irony that many people shrugged it off.

Typically, we will compose photos according to what is already set our cameras, so the composition of the picture so it does not quite fit. In some cameras, we can change the aspect ratio, in most others can not, but we can crop an image in image processing software like Photoshop.

3:2 is the aspect ratio that we find in ordinary digital SLR cameras. Aspect ratio is generally favorable for horizontal images like scenery.

4:3 aspect ratio that is most natural in the cap and the most delicious viewed both horizontally and vertically. Unlike 3:2, while the vertical picture, aspect ratio is not too high, so it is not tiring the eyes. 4:3 suitable for portrait-oriented photos.

1:1 aspect ratio is square. In the past, the aspect ratio is found in large format cameras. Aspect ratio is perfect for photos and detailed patterns. 1:1 aspect ratio is also called neutral because it is not oriented horizontally or vertically.

16:9 aspect ratio that is frequently encountered in the film. This aspect ratio and wide seem rather short. Usually suitable for landscape photos or create memorable cinematic images (like film).

5:1 aspect ratio is also called panorama since the very wide scope. Usually suitable for landscape photography.
By being aware of the aspect ratio affects the composition, we can choose the proper aspect ratio so that the images we see better.
